At 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, TEAM USA pilots mobile electronic medical records for team doctors.

At the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece in July 2011 Health One Global sponsored the first ever digital medical records for Team USA and their Team doctor, Dr Tim Taft. Dr Taft saw a Health One Global demonstration of digital medical records at the Special Olympics US National Games in Nebraska in July, 2010 and asked if he could have digital access to the medical records of the 430 strong Team USA at the World Summer Games in Athens in 2011. Dr Taft’s alternative, with his 6 assistant team doctors, was to carry the paper records of the 430 team members with him wherever he went in Athens, as has happened in all previous Games.

Health One Global developed a new software application to run on iPads and iPhones to enable Dr Taft and his colleagues to view the medical records of any of the Team USA participants including pats medical history, diagnoses, current medication, allergies, special needs etc. etc. Dr Taft and his medical team were then able to record, digitally, any medical problems the athletes had and the full treatments given by Dr Taft and his colleagues.

This new software application will be further piloted by Special Olympics over the next 12 months. At the conclusion of the pilot it is hoped that any team doctor anywhere will be able to access their team’s medical records from a wide variety of devices, including cellphones, iPhone and Windows smartphones, iPads and Android tablets.
