Wave 1 of HEALTH One Global Personal Health Record Research project
begins.
Health One Global has begun the Wave 1 pilot of the personal health record research project
with Special Olympics and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), funded by the US Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (http://www.ahrq.gov/), that we announced in
February 2010
AHRQ is the lead Federal agency charged with improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and
effectiveness of health care for all Americans. Getting any AHRQ grant is prestigious and our
joint proposal was awarded AHRQ's top rating. UIC is one of the world's leading authorities on
the health of people with disabilities.
The pilot athletes have secure access to their web-based personal health record through a USB
Card uniquely initialised for each athlete. Once authenticated, athletes can access their personal
health record which has been specifically tailored to the special needs of the Special Olympics
athletes including all their past Special Olympics Healthy Athletes health screening data. The
athletes can add and track their personal sports training log, they can add and monitor their
Health Promotion and Diet actions, and they can enter their own healthcare / clinical data.
Role based access enables the athletes to grant access to their record to named others such as
parents/guardians or relevant healthcare professionals.
The personal health record even gives access to the project Newsletter from Special Olympics
and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Look out for the launch of Wave 2 in April 2011.
